Jimmy Khan & Rahma Ali - Nadiya Coke Studio Season 7 Episode 3
Jimmy Khan makes his Coke Studio debut in this episode with Nadiya. The Coke Studio composition rooted in the filmy era is consistent in a certain texture that is crafted by the use of certain instruments that were prevalent in that era. The arrangement manifests the song into an unforgettable sweet number. Inspired by the folk-blues style of the ‘50s and ‘60s, the song expounds upon a lover whose loss has left behind a vacuum.
Alongside Jimmy are the saccharine dewed vocals of Rahma Ali; performing the classic track ‘Gaari ko Chalana Babu’ from the 1956 film Anokhi. Rahma’s singing style complements Nadiya beautifully, blending it organically with the original.
The Coke Studio composition reinvents the song by creating a bridge between both the songs that are over fifty years apart. By slowing down the tempo the composition allows the melodica performed by Arsalan Ali to take centre-stage. Whilst the overall composition stems from western instrumentation, the feel of the song finds itself well placed within the 60’s Pakistani filmy music which is further accentuated by the innocent twang of Hamza Jafri’s ukulele solos.
